Project Description

In December 2011, I acquired this piece of land in Drylands Hot-arid in el Bajio Mexico. Since then I spend every winter tuning the plot.

We ordered a dam that was made on oct 2012, and finish planning and implementing the water harvesting system with the help of some volunteers on feb 2014. At the moment the plot is running crazy on local diversity. Of course we took advantage of it, and on oct 2013, we bought 5 sheep, 2 horses and one cow. They are all eating from 2013's infiltration even in dry season we are green! Now we have 9 sheep, 2 horses and two cows all very healthy and happy guys.

Hope this is a good example for locals so they start infiltrating water into their land, since deforestation, monoculture, erosion, and therefore poverty and lack of education on the matter are the main problems in the area.

My parents are living there now, they have been employing a local person permanently and 2 or 3 seasonally. We are aiming to live sustainably and to become a demonstration site for Permaculture practices. We are already teaching locals, and we plan on starting teaching some courses open to the public on 2014. Volunteering is open on Dec-Jan every year.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
