About Angelo Eliades

Angelo Eliades has been involved in organic gardening since 2004, is a qualified trainer, technical writer and a presenter with tertiary qualifications in the biomedical sciences. He completed his PDC in 2008. Angelo’s specialty is in designing urban food forests, and he has been a vocal advocate of the benefits of food forests ever since he designed and built Melbourne’s first demonstration Permaculture backyard food forest in 2008, which sees hundreds of visitors every year attend the regular garden tours and workshops. He runs a sustainable gardening educational website (http://deepgreenpermaculture.com/), which has been running for the same period of time and has international readership, which teaches people all about Permaculture through a blend of theory, case studies and interesting DIY projects.

His interest in Permaculture grew out of a deep involvement with organic gardening. Upon hearing about the concept of food forests, he researched this idea further, and embarked on a year-long self study of Permaculture. Deciding to put the theory into practise, he built his first Permaculture garden, and two weeks after he finished, stumbled upon a Permaculture course being run in town by the founders, from that point there was no return!

Angelo currently runs Permaculture garden tours and workshops in his demonstration urban food forest, runs presentations promoting urban food forests, write articles, and runs a Permaculture web site. He is involved with his local Permaculture group, performs consulting work, and is volunteering as an advisor/consultant on two large community Permaculture projects, as well as participating in building more urban food forests in the suburbs. He has been working on a portfolio of work since 2009 which he hopes to submit to PRI as part of his assesment for a Permaculture Diploma by Coursework, with the intention of becoming an authorised teacher.
