About Andrew Drummond
I graduated from Glasgow University with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering in 2011, while I became interested in sustainable development and permaculture in the last couple years of my course, my grade was negatively affected by my disillusionment with what passes for industrial efficiency these days, and now with an impoverishing student debt and inability to work for most engineering firms due to my stubborn conscience, I can't afford to take a permaculture design course, so I make do with what I can access online.
I first learned about permaculture through discussions with members of the sustainability-oriented Zeitgeist Movement, a social/activist organisation who have goals and ideas very in line with what is proposed by the Permaculture community at large.
Currently I am attempting to pioneer a small food-forest in the middle of a grass desert on rocky soil in the cold-temperate-maritime climate of the Scottish Highlands. In between getting my hands dirty, I read Mollison's 'design manual' and do CAD drawings to test out some of my ideas.
I am very interested in developing renewable energy systems as Open-Hardware, and I love the work being done by Open Source Ecology.
