About Stephen Trauger

I have been interested in sustainable living and a more earth friendly way of being for the last twenty years. In 1995 I purchased 9 acres in the mountains of West Virginia and built a 600 ft chalet style cabin using many recyclables. The property includes a compost toilet, a gravity fed water system and good solar orientation. I practice sustainable forestry and encourage plant and animal diversity. During 2010 I completed my Permaculture Design Certificate through Permaculture Visions International, using my mountain property as the subject of my course work.
I then enrolled in a two year diploma program with Permaculture Visions, and moved my area of study to a farmette called Growing Wild, located in Winchester, VA. Over the last two years we have renovated 3 buildings, added a PV system, a compost toilet, a small pond, swales, sheet mulched gardens and many more pemaculture based improvements and we are utilizing many permaculture principles as we develop.
In 2013 we formed Growing Wild LLC. We have hosted several meet up groups, movies and tours to help our local community have a better understanding of Permaculture. We are in the process of applying for our non-profit status. We hope to apply for PRI master site status in early 2014.
