About Sieger Burger

I am a Dutchman, with experience around the world.
I did my PDC in Jordan with Geoff Lawton in 2010. It gave me a very useful framework so that lot's of pieces of the puzzle fell in the right place.
My focus is on water, but always with a wider focus on soil and vegetation as well.
At the moment I work with Acacia Water, a consultancy firm in groundwater and water harvesting around the world.
Projects around the world (for example Netherlands, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Zimbabwe) include both high tech (drip irrigation projects) and low tech (Managed Aquifer Recharge, regreening landscapes). The nice thing of this work is that we use the landscape as a start for what is possible. Starting with the biophysical potential leads to better results.

From 2011 to 2013 I have worked in Afghanistan on projects related to the triangle Water - Soil - Vegetation (waterharvesting, permeability and infiltration, interaction between soil and vegetation). In Afghanistan I have gained a lot of on the ground experience like building check dams, catch dams and contour trenches, training farmers in DRR in relation to droughts and floods, developed the training materials.

From 2005 to 2011 I have worked in Holland in the infrastructure sector, as an all-round water specialist for urban water management and water management around large infrastructure projects. During this period I was supporting the Kenian NGO Sasol, who have done amazing work with sand storage dams.

Education:
Civil Engineering at Delft University of Technology, Master in Integrated Water management
