About Ryan Barrett
My background is a black-thumbed computer generalist with very little experience with plants. My first garden was planted in a raised bed in Spring of 2012 (It produced a little bit of tomatoes and lettuce).
In 2012 I acquired 4.3 acres in Rural Missouri. In spring 2012 a lot of time and money was put into implementing a poorly designed orchard. Due to drought conditions and inability to properly irrigate, it failed pretty spectacularly. Twenty-three dead trees. Searching for a better way; Found permaculture.
Currently in the design process for transforming my Home in Overland and farm in St James Missouri. Attended a PDC in Fall of 2012 and I'm interested in consulting for anyone that needs some ideas for adding a little permaculture to their Home/Land.
If you are in the St Louis area and would like to meet up with other people interested in permaculture, Join the St Louis Permaculture Guild: http://www.meetup.com/Saint-Louis-Permaculture-Guild/

Open Source Ecology - Keyline plow! (Wear a helmet)
Keyline plow for the Open Source Ecology tractor. I love that it's so simple and it seems to work just fine.
Hugelkultur bed in my backyard
Hugelkultur bed. Took a little under 5 hours to complete (did this in one day...) seeded with dutch white clover and covered with straw.
